Whole tone scale

The scale is written in alto. Soprano is one octave higher. Mezzo soprano is a half octave higher. Tenor is a half octave lower. Bass is one full octave lower.

This scale transports one outside the normal realm of experience! Originally popularised by the composer Claude Debussy it was also used for the sound of the transporter on the Star Trek t.v. series. It is often heard in the background music of movies and television soundtracks to signify a dream sequence or flashback.

The Whole tone ensemble creates a truly ethereal effect!
